Training Marketplace Missionaries
Origins: A Divine Coffeehouse in Haviland, Kansas. It’s a mission through business enterprise, a hands-on working lab for Barclay College students studying ministry and missions. We have created a business that models sustainability and reproducibility in cross cultural ministry work. Students learn about missions in the marketplace and servant leadership, through this business venture.
The proceeds from Origins: A Divine Coffeehouse are used to further the Great Commission through the students and programs of Barclay College. One such program is Junior’s Global, which sends third year students on a cross-cultural, over-seas ministry experience to expose them to missions work first hand. Students experience a hands-on transformational learning opportunity.
More about Barclay College
Barclay College is a nationally accredited Bible College in southwest Kansas, offering both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Its mission is to “prepare students in a Bible-centered environment for effective Christian life, service, and leadership.” Founded by Friends in 1917, it continues today to teach, train, equip, and send emerging leaders to serve the Lord through a variety of vocations and ministries, offering degrees in fields such as business, education, psychology, and sports/recreation, in addition to Bible, Pastoral Ministries, and Missions. As a premier pastoral and missions training center, there are currently more BC graduates who serve as Evangelical Friends pastors and missionaries than from any other institution of higher education.
“Business as Mission is a commercial business venture, intentionally devoted to being used as an instrument of God’s mission (Missio Dei) to the world. Business as Mission companies minister to all those who are directly in the business’s sphere of influence, such as their workforce and their families, suppliers, vendors, customers and clients.” -C. Neal Johnson – Business as Mission
